Why is Mike the Center of Your Universe?
My dad is truly the center of my – and my entire family’s – universe. He is the most hardworking, kind-hearted and generous person I know. He continues to set such an incredible example of what a father and husband should be.
I remember the little things with my dad like him getting up early to make cinnamon rolls for us on the weekends, always filling up the gas tanks in all the cars, sneaking gift cards and small $$ bills into my car when I’d come home from college, and even now that us kids are all grown up and moved out of the house, stopping by to cut the grass, let the dogs out or bring packages inside.
Over the years, we’ve also relied on him in more momentous times like supporting me through college (in more ways than just financially), being a go-to source for career advice, and selflessly devoting many, many hours to various home-improvement projects across our extended family.
As I’ve grown up over the years, my relationship with my dad has changed, matured and grown stronger. I still appreciate all of the small favors, sweet treats and silly moments, but I admire him more for his outpouring of support during times of need, patience in our frustrations, and respectful understanding for my own decisions and independence.
I’ve leaned on my dad every step of the way – big and small – and he’s been there always without any hesitation. He holds us all up, even above his own needs. Without him, I wouldn’t be who I am today, and I’m eternally grateful for him playing such an integral part in my life.
